In an effort to reduce the number of uninsured motorists on the roads and encourage drivers to comply with state law, Irving police are now towing vehicles of uninsured drivers involved in accidents or pulled over for traffic stops. Impounded vehicles won’t be released until motorists show proof of insurance. Police will make every effort to verify insurance before towing, but they strongly recommend that drivers put a copy of their insurance policy in their vehicle. “We feel this policy will provide effective and needed assistance to our efforts of gaining compliance with the law, and it also demonstrates our commitment to protecting the rights and safety of citizens who use our roadways, responsibly, every day,” said David Paris, assistant chief, field operations bureau.
